Transcript copy of the Letter Book of Sir Donald McLean, Superintendent of Hawke's Bay, covering the period October 1866 to March 1869.
A note at the front of the book explains that the original was badly damaged by water prior to its acquisition by the Dominion Archives in 1926, and a number of the letters were illegible or only partly decipherable. The letters appear to be generally in the hand of Edward L. Green, McLean's Secretary.
