Brief Description
Map showing the Pacific Ocean, 1894.
This shows the new and suggested cable routes from New Zealand and Australia.
Four suggested cable routes are suggested by Mr Fleming.
1) North Cape to Norfolk Island - veering to Standbroke Island in Australia, and continuing through Fiji Islands finishing at Admiralty Inlet in British Columbia, Canada.
2) Same as above as far as Fiji, then veers off to Necker Island, near the Sandwich Islands and on to British Columbia.
3) North Cape to Fiji, then on to Solomon Islands, Necker Island and British Columbia.
4) Cumberland Island in Australia to Solomon Islands and on to British Columbia.
The map also shows the route of the existing cable which is from Wellington and Nelson ending up in Sydney.
