Brief Description
A folder containing a collection of documents associated with the Napier Citizens' Control Committee which was located at the Athenaeum Building in Herschell Street following the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.

The folder contains blank examples of permits, reports and application forms issued by the Napier Citizens Control Committee Municipal Re-Construction Department including: Sanitary Inspector's Report; Report on Electrical Installations; Application for Permit to Re-occupy; Report on Gas Installations and Fire Loss Application for Compensation for Furniture, Personal Effects etc Lost by Fire Consequent on Earthquake.

Other items include a meal ticket; refugee pass; registration cards; Red Cross Clearing Station identification card; a public notice regarding water supply to dwellings and a health notice issued by the Department of Public Health, Hospitals and Charitable Aid with information regarding sanitation and water supplies.

A coloured map of the Borough of Napier has a key showing the devastated area; buildings not damaged; new and constructed buildings finished; new and constructed buildings in progress and temporary buildings. There is a list of the commercial and official buildings damaged and a list of buildings completely destroyed. Information is shown on decisions made at a meeting of the Napier Citizens Control Committee regarding temporary building permits.

There is a typewritten telephone list of connections, with no numbers listed, the first issued after the earthquake from the temporary telephone exchange in Napier. A sheet printed on 10 March 1931 has an alphabetical list of Napier telephone exchange subscribers including fire brigades; registered medical practitioners, hospitals and registered nurses, government departments, businesses and private subscribers.

A memorandum issued on 14 February from the Hawke's Bay Education Board to the Chairman of School Committees and all teachers
offering information on the ongoing services to be provided states that the only school likely to be occupied for quite some time is Te Awa School.

Also included is a copy of the Thanksgiving Service held at McLean Park on 3 February 1932.
