Nautical chart made by Edward Powell and published by the Royal Navy Hydrographic Office of Poverty Bay to Castle Point, dated May 1874.
The chart shows depth soundings along Poverty Bay, Mahia, Cape Kidnappers and Castle Point with a particular focus on the Hawke's Bay region. Shows physical features and magnetic variations. Inset map is a close up view of Castle Point to Cape Palliser. Longitudinal and latitudinal markings given.
Chart originally surveyed by J J stokes from 1849 to 1855, drawn by Edward Powell and engraved by J and C Walker. Variations made in 1871 and corrections made in May 1874.
