Brief Description
Travel permits and travel pass for Wilfred Stead issued following the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931, and a letter from his daughter written in 1992 to the mayor of Hastings.
a) Travel pass issued by the Waipukurau Borough Council authorizing travel to Hastings for Mr Stead and Mrs Leiplon dated 7 February 1931.
b) Travel permit issued by the Police Station in Dannevirke on 7 February 1931 to Wilfred R Stead for travel through Longlands, Hastings for the purpose of employment. The permit is issued by J V Bell for the Sergeant of Police.
c) Travel permit dated 21 February 1931 issued by Hastings Transport Officer, S Averill to W R Stead for return travel to Hastings via Napier.
d) Letter dated 17 January 1992 addressed to the mayor of Hastings, from Marianne Mac Smith of Borenore New South Wales, Australia, daughter of Wilfred Stead formerly of Sasanof Stud at Longlands, offering the above travel permits and pass and providing some historical information about her maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs A F M Symes of Richmond Park homestead at Sasanof Stud and her paternal grandparents who resided in a two-storied home known as Flaxmere which was destroyed at the time of the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
