Brief Description
There are seven identification cards and permits to travel.
a) A silk fabric Police badge.
b) An identification card for William Norman Jersey MacKay aged 61 an accountant of 14 Lincoln Road. Registration Officer H Walker. Printed card number: 3598.
c) An Identification card for Ian D MacKay aged 27 a solicitor of 14 Lincoln Road. Registration Officer B. Chiselhurst (?). Printed card number: 3536.
These identification cards were issued by the Napier Citizens' Control Committee and were for Earthquake refugees to obtain food supplies or hot meals.
d) Travel permit. Issued by the Earthquake Relief Organisation to enable refugees to leave the earthquake area and to return home from Pahiatua to Napier by their own transport. It was issued to Mr and Mrs W N J MacKay and their son Ian D MacKay on 10 March 1931.
e) Travel Permit from Napier Police Station dated 7 February 1931. It was issued to William Norman MacKay and his wife and son to allow them to leave Napier for business purposes and to visit relatives and to return. The permit was signed by D Wallace, Constable. It was counter stamped by Waipukurau Borough Council on 10 February 1931.
f) Permit, to leave Napier. Issued by Napier Citizens' Control Committee to Mr and Mrs W N J MacKay and I D MacKay on 10 March 1931.
g) Public Notice. An open letter from the Mayor of Christchurch to his citizens encouraging financial contributions to the relief of the people of Hawke's Bay in the aftermath of the 3 February 1931 earthquake.
