Brief Description
The Book of the Guard, Portraying certain highlights, lowlights, sidelights, and delights of the Home Guard activities and inactivities - in picture, cartoon, verse and incidentals. As a little memento of the laughter we heard, the fun we had, and the fine friends we made, this book is dedicated to the members of the Home Guard throughout New Zealand.
Foreword by Captain T E Y Seddon; Drawings of "Bivvies" by Corporal R [Roland] Hipkins; Photographs by Lieutenant D B Mackersey, Sergeant M L G Leask, Corporal C E Symes, and Corporal J T Gasson; Cartoons and Sketches inflicted by Guardsman L C Mitchell; Doggerel and Jingle by Guardsman Ian Mackay.
Acknowledgement notes that most of the verses in the booklet have appeared in various journals including The New Zealand Free Lance and NZRSA Review with thanks the editors concerned for permission to republish.
