Map includes reference points for geological units including alluvium gravel sand mud, river terrace gravel, Mangatarata conglomerate mudstone, Kumeroa, upper sandy mudstone, Kereru limestone, Ashley member limestone, Basal rudites sandstone conglomerate - circle pattern where thin, Torlesse super group basement, axial belt sandstone, Pohangina Melange, argillite, spilite, chert and Kashmir-Belt alternating sandstone and mudstone.

Symbol references include strike and dip bedding, strike of vertical bedding, strike and dip of overturned beds with a tick showing dip direction, foliation in melange, strike and dip of mesoscopic fault, fold trace anticline and syncline, contact dashed where inferred dotted where concealed, fault arrows showing direction of movement, crush zone, sandstone bed, landslide and locality.
