Brief Description
Napier West Presbyterian Parish and St Stephen's Parish Council and Congregational Meeting Minutes dated March 1983 to August 1990.
The first document in the folder is an introduction to Parish Council outlining the structure of the Parish Courts and the role of the different sub-committees. This document is dated April 1974.
The minutes from the meetings of Parish Council include records of attendance, correspondence, general business, reports from Presbytery and the Napier and District Council of Churches, as well as reports from each of the council sub-committees: Pastoral, Thrift Shop, Worship, Church and Community, Christian Education and Property and Finance.
Of particular note is the resignation of the Very Reverend Tom Corkill, announced at the special meeting of the Parish Council held in St David's Hall on 30 October 1985. In the minutes which follow, Reverend Corkill's resignation, the consequent vacancy and the effect on the church are significant points of discussion.
Some other papers of historical value are included: order of service for the ordination and induction of Mr David Dell as Assistant Minister of Napier West Parish, 5 February 1987; Presbytery of Hawke's Bay Visitation Report dated April 1987 containing mention of the possibility of consolidation and the closure of St David's Church; documents regarding the proposal to have services at one centre only and the restructuring of Parish Council; the order of service for the ordination and induction of Michael Coppins as Minister of Napier West Parish, 20 December 1988; documents relating to unification of St Peter's and St David's, the redevelopment project of the parish worship centre and the adoption of a new parish name, St Stephen's.
