School Reopens. Hukarere organiser Ross Himona was one of the several speakers at the ceremony, held outside of the school’s netball court. Nearly 300 old girls, organisers and well-wishers turned up at Napier’s Hukarere Māori Girls’ College on Saturday to formally reopen its school (which closed in 1969) and hostel which closed at the end of 1991.

The photograph was taken on 6 February 1993 and published in the Daily Telegraph newspaper on 8 February 1993.
