Honour for Orchardist - The New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation has awarded Hastings orchardist John Paynter the Bledisloe Cup for outstanding contribution to the fruit industry.
John Paynter, recipient of the Bledisloe Cup trophy. Cup presented annually, gift from Govenor-General Lord Bledisloe in 1931. John Paynter member of both the Kiwifruit Marketing Board and the Apple and Pear Marketing Board. Also director of New Zealand Post, the Port of Napier, the Horticulture and Food Research Institute, Fruit Industry Plant Improvement Association, Christian marketing NEW ZEALAND and trustee of Nuffield Farming Scholarship Trust and the Massey University Agricultural Reserarch Foundation. Launched "Yummy Nectarines" in Auckland. Last year, award won by another Hawke's Bay grower Ken Kiddle last year. Man holding large trophy standing in orchard.
