About this object
Tiring Work. Bedding down among bedding boxes, Napier council apprentice gardener Karla Peterson feels like she deserves a rest.
The enormous chore of transplanting 130,000 annuals from seedling trays into bedding boxes is almost over for another season.
The mass of plants will remain at the council’s Nelson Park nursery until they are ready for planting out around the city’s public gardens to become a blaze of colour. The council produces about 200,000 annuals a year, including the begonias pictured here.
Photograph taken 6 October 1993 and published in the newspaper on that date.
