Brief Description
A diary written by William Colenso with a loose slip of paper.

a) A diary written by William Colenso containing small daily entries. Each entry gives a brief summary of William Colenso's daily activities in Napier. The first entry is dated Christmas Day 1889, where he mentions he preached a sermon at the Cathedral to a large congregation. The last handwritten entry is dated Tuesday 7 October 1890. Subjects mentioned include the weather, his health, visitors and visiting, lending money, continuing Botanical work, writing letters, and his involvement with the Anglican Church.

The diary is printed with the calendar month and the year at the tops of the pages, with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday entries on the left pages and Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the right pages. There are printed advertisements at the front and rear of the diary, a calendar, Explanation of Calendar, Weights and Measures, Australian Postal Information, an inserted small green page advertising Magazines published by Cassell & Company Limited, Concise Australasian Gazetteer, Concise Directory, an inserted small page advertising Letts's Diaries, and Memoranda of Reference. At the back of the diary is an additional page for Memoranda of Things Lent.

b) A loose slip of paper found inside the diary. It is the front portion of an envelope addressed to: Mr A H Keeling, Box 21, Manakau, Horowhenua. On the back are handwritten notes repeating information from the first diary entries from the 1890 diary.
