Brief Description
The letter to the Pai Mārire (known at that time as Hauhau) is from Donald McLean and is dated 11 October 1866.

In the letter written from Napier, Donald McLean questions the reason why the Hauhau have come to Heretaunga. He continues, that the Hauhau have come to a peaceful region and caused confusion and disturbance and asks for them to give up their arms and surrender.
