Manuscripts, Recollections.

Typed documents, two copies of each title as follows:
a) and f) Title: Recollections of Mrs Elizabeth Colenso, widow of the late Reverend William Colenso. Recorded in 1899. Born 1821 - died 1904.
Elizabeth Colenso (née Fairburn) deals briefly with her marriage to William Colenso. When she left Waitangi "for good" in 1853 she went to the Church Missionary Society Station at Taupiri, Waikato and remained until December 1860. She then went to England 1860 - 1866; her association with Hare Pomare and his wife Hariata and baby and their audience with Queen Victoria. Francis and Latimer (Latty) went with her to England. Latty remained in England and was a student at St John's College, Cambridge. Once Elizabeth and Fanny returned to New Zealand they lived at the Church Missionary Society Station at Paihia. Fanny married W H Simcox and they both left for England, returning in 1874. Bishop John R Selwyn asked Elizabeth to go to Norfolk Island - she sailed 31 December 1875 and stayed until 20 December 1898. She then went to live with her daughter at Forest Lakes, Otaki.

b) and g) Title: Recollections of Early days in New Zealand by Mrs W H Simcox (born 1844, dies 1928). Frances (Mrs W H Simcox) was Elizabeth and William Colenso's daughter.

c) and h) Title: Mrs Elizabeth Colenso: Recollections by her eldest granddaughter. Frances Edith Swabey (née Simcox). Elizabeth took her grand children Martin and Frances to Norfolk with her in 1884 and they lived with her for a year. Edith returned in 1893 and stayed until December 1898 to look after Elizabeth who was in failing health.

d) and i) Title: Milicent M Whitehorn (née Simcox) Remembers.
She records her mother's life - Frances Mary Simcox, daughter of Elizabeth and William Colenso.

e) and j) Title: Edith Swabey Recollects.

k) A handwritten document which has lists of Simcox addresses from the Wises's New Zealand Post Office Directories from 1959/60, 1931 and 1957. There is a brief biography of Frances Mary Simcox (née Colenso), including the names and birth dates of her and Mr W H Simcox's children: In April 1843, William Colenso married Elizabeth Fairburn. Their daughter Frances Mary Colenso was born at Waimate on the 1 February 1844. In July 1870, Frances (Fanny) married Mr W H Simcox. They had nine children: Edith, William Martin, Millicent, Christine, John Colenso Heath, Francis Selwyn, Edwin Percivale, Beatrice Elaine, and Constance Maud
