About this object
Beam Me Up. The million-dollar doppler high-frequency directional and distance measuring beacon presents an unearthly appearance surrounded by baked mud near the Beacons north of the Hawke's Bay Airport. It is one of 18 that the Napier Engineering firm Eastbridge has built and installed around the country. The electronic equipment was installed by the international firm Thompson GSF. Each of the counterpoises which is a table supported by about 30 legs is 26 metres high. The system was installed for the Airways Corporation.
