About this object
Big Catch - A huge anchor raised from its resting place at West Pier in the inner harbour last week has Napier historians puzzled. Just how old is the anchor and where did it come from? Captain George Gunn of the Hawke's Bay Coastguard, believes he has the answer. In 1911 the Wellington Harbour Board sent the Whakarire to dredge around the North Spit area. Captain Gunn believes the anchor was left behind, possibly because bad weather made it impossible to haul the anchor back on board. Council worker Neil Graham inspects the huge anchor in the council yard.
