Dear Sir,
Upon your retirement from active work in the Hawke's Bay District after a period of over twenty years amongst us, your fellow settlers desire to give expression by this means of their appreciation of your sterling character, your integrity and to sincerely wish you happiness and prosperity in the future.
During your residence in this district you have commended yourself to your fellow settlers by your straightforward conduct, by your qualities as a friend, and by the readiness you have always displayed to lend your time and services to worthy objects.
We ask you to accept this token of our esteem and appreciation and in accepting it to regard it as bearing testimony to our sincere regard for you, and to our earnest wish that your future and that of Mrs Crowther and your family may be a happy and prosperous one.
