About this object
Japanese coloured woodblock print on textured paper. The character wears a yellow robe and red trousers which is a Nochi-shite kazura costume. This consists of a kazura-obi, kin-kazaori-eboshi (gold eboshi-style headdress), chōken (an unlined, long-sleeved elegant garment worn by dancing female characters), hakama in ōkuchi-style (scarlet), kitsuke / surihaku, koshi-obi, and a fan. The character holds a Shinto hei stick.
Miwa is a Noh play where a priest gives a pious woman a coat to protect her from the cold, but a little later, he finds the coat hanging on a tree. The kami of Miwa appears to him, tells him her story and dances for him.
