Letter and photograph from Mrs Euphemia Seggie Steele to her sister-in-law Mrs Elizabeth Gibson dated 26 February 1931.
a) Letter written from Auckland following Euphemia Steele's departure from Hawke's Bay. In the letter Euphemia describes her experience at the moment the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake struck. She writes of her efforts to escape from her house and how she and her family and neighbours survived in the following days. She concludes that they will do their best to sell and get out of New Zealand.
