Brief Description
Two letters from E H Williams, Solicitor, Hastings, which are titled as Nelson leases.
Included with the letters is a list of natives who have not signed Mr Nelson's lease. The letters are from E H Williams, Solicitor, Hastings. They are addressed to J P Hamlin, Napier.
a) Letter dated 23 April 1887: Sitting of the Court at Taradale. Required to get the signatures of the successor to Harata Hawea and Purakau (lease to Hobson ); Hawea Naera, Rotana Naera, Atenata Naera, Rani Nikora, Whakataki, Maraetai, Te Ngengere Te Maora, Tohi Te Orpu, Te Nimana Patu and Rapaua Whuiwhui. The following lost declarations should be replaced: Matene Wainohu and Nepe Ta Apatu - lease to Nelson; Pita Puiti, Rapaua Kire Kore, Miriara Tohi, Kaitiaki Mo, Wikitoria Anaru, Matene Wainohu, Nepe Te Apatu - lease to Hobson and assinged to Nelson.
b) Letter dated 16 June 1887: No declarations for the following infants signatures - Te Nahu Watene (trustee Hori Te Aroatua) and Te Manu Whakaewa (trustee Te Ngengere Te Maroa). Also needed is Paora Ropiha's hapū signatures.
c) There is a list of natives who have not signed Mr Nelson's lease; members of Paora Ropihas hapū who have not signed lease to Hobson; list of names who have not passed the Trust Commissioner.
