Certificate of discharge of No 9048 - Private John James Clegg, 8 Contingent, Napier, New Zealand.

Born in the Province of Hawke's Bay near Napier; attested at Trentham on 9 April 1902 at the age of 20 years. Medals and Decorations ....(Second?) Boer War South Africa 1902. He was discharged in consequence of completion of service on 19 August 1902. Character good. Service abroad - 117 days. War Gratuity paid. Description on discharge: Age 21 years; Height: 5 foot 7 and a half inches; Complexion: fair; Eyes: blue; Hair: dark; Occupation: Labourer; Intended place of residence Ormondville, Hawke's Bay. Dated 22 June 1903.

On back of certificate: Payment of Army Order 150. £19.00; Gratuity £5 made this day. Signed by A W Hutchings, Postmaster and dated 18 September 1903, Ormondville. The Medal VN: [ 27657 ] states that John James Clegg was in the 10th Contingency rather that the 8.

Note - 10th contingent sailed 14 April, 1902, so unlikely he sailed with the tenth.
