Brief Description
Two volumes entitled: Maleesh, A Welfare Officer with 2NZEF in the Middle East, 1942 to 1943. Vol II by Leo Bestall.
The typescript details Bestall's experiences in Egypt during World War II.
The preface reads:
Maleesh! no matter is quite as good a title as any. It is the most wonderful word to the Arab and in this case to me.
It was written in odd moments of a busy life over a period of twelve years, and now it is finished, it is out of date, too full of mistakes of punctuation and spelling and it lacks excitement or action. The last I know are needed if a war book is to have success today.
But it has been fun writing it and reading it has meant - to me - the reliving of a wonderful experience. I'm afraid it won't mean much to others. Well, Maleesh!!
