Brief Description
Speeches and reports by Leo Bestall circa 1950.

Each item contains three sets of notes.

a) Report to the Napier Borough Council regarding details of the funding sources for the Hawke's Bay Museum and Art Gallery and is an appeal to the council for provisions for the museum to have stable and reliable funding from the council. This speech dates from 1948 as it is mentioned that Bestall has been the honorary director for 12 years.

b) Speech entitled: The work of the Hawke's Bay Museum and Art Gallery. It is a script for a tour of the museum and highlights what museums do, the staff, what specific collections the museum has, the initial building programme and funding as well as educational programmes.

Undated.

c) Speech primarily about collecting and the role of museums in preservation. It mentions coming exhibitions such as a show of British watercolours and a handicrafts exhibition and details funding. This speech is circa 1950 as Bestall mentions it is important to preserve a picture of Napier as it is mid-century. This script is incomplete.
