Brief Description
Leonard Delabere Bestall's Soldier's Service Book with removable Soldier's Pay Book. Both are encased in a wallet-type cover with a concertina pouch attached to the front cover and a simple pouch at the back. The back cover of the pay book slips into the back pouch of the cover and can therefore be removed. The front cover reads: Soldier's Pay Book for use on Active Service.

a) On the inside front cover of the service book is Leonard Delabere Bestall's name, identification number, and a printed reminder to all ranks about privacy of information.

The contents of the book include: Instructions to Soldier; Rules for the Soldier's Guidance; a personal details page including information about Mrs Bestall, his next-of-kin; medical and leave records. On the last page is a stamp which records that the bearer voted in the 1943 General Election.

Attached to the inside back cover is a folded certificate stating that Leonard Delabere Bestall, 71840, was employed as a Church Army Officer and was authorised to follow the Armed Forces of the Crown.

b) A booklet entitled: Soldier's Pay Book Part II. Handwritten on the front cover is his name, Leonard Delabere Bestall, and his number 71840. This booklet includes personal details and records of banking transactions from 30 March 1941 in the field to 13 June 1946 in Napier.
