Object detail

Brief Description
Report by Leo Bestall made to the Art Gallery and Museum Association of New Zealand Conference in Napier circa 1950.

Speech is entitled: Three Conferences in England in 1950. They are about the English Museums Association in Aberdeen, International Council of Museums in London, and a York conference on art appreciation attended by Leo Bestall. Reports on the first two had been published, so he doesn't discuss the conferences in detail, but provides some highlights with amusing anecdotes and talks of the contacts he made, the personalities he encountered and parties attended.

Speakers and papers he mentions are Sir Harry Lindsay of the Imperial Institute, Dr Plenderleith of British Museum and Sir Leigh Ashton about artificial lighting in museums. The notes do not seem to be complete as they stop abruptly after a brief discussion about the York conference.
