Letter to the Be Our Guest competition written by Eric Waterfield about his memories of the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
Eric Waterfield's former father-in-law Edward Whitfield ran a service car business, from Palmerston North to Napier, and was ordered to evacuate homeless people after the earthquake. He was never paid for the costs he incurred and was subsequently made bankrupt. He remained bitter about it all his life.
