Letter to the Be Our Guest competition written by Rae Henry Lawrence. He writes about his memories of the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
Mr Rae Henry Lawrence was four years and four months old at the time of the 1931 earthquake. His family lived in Collinge Road, Hastings. He had a twin sister Marie. They were inside their house when the earthquake struck and had to crawl out. They camped in tents on the front lawn until they set up home in the old cowshed. The family stayed after the earthquake and did not evacuate.
