Object detail
Brief Description
Entry to the Be Our Guest competition from M J Gray about her memories of the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
M J Gray was ten years old, and in standard four at Nelson Park School in Napier. Her father had a garage in Napier but at the time of the earthquake was in Hastings on business. The police instructed families to leave their homes and they went to Taradale where they camped overnight. They were unable to return to their home as there was no sewage or water. M J Gray also had a brother, and they stayed with friends in Dannevirke for three months after the earthquake as their parents were both in Napier to restore the garage business.
