Brief Description
William Colenso's Journal 1834 - 1840. The journal begins 18 June 1834 and documents Colenso's voyage to Sydney, his time spent in Sydney, and the voyage from Sydney to New Zealand. The rest is titled New Zealand and records his missionary work amongst the Māori in the Bay of Islands. The entries finish 1 March 1840. The journal includes Colenso's observations on the day of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi by Māori Chiefs.
The journal has had two two loose pieces of handwritten paper inserted. One has dates and notes written on it and at one point states: See bush journal. The other is a religious text.
