30 January, 1840.
My dear friend,
I write to you again; a ship has arrived with the queen of England’s representative on board, who is to become a Governer for us all. He has asked for a meeting to see the chiefs of New Zealand on Wednesday this coming week. I am asking you my friend, to come to my home at Waitangi to attend this meeting. You would be an asset for this meeting.
Therefore, my letter is finished,
Your dear friend,
