Brief Description
Four telegrams from Edward Richardson, to Sir Donald McLean, dated January 1876.

a) Telegram from Edward Richardson, Government Buildings, Wellington, to Sir Donald McLean, dated 26 January 1876. It concerns scabby sheep and the amount of money needed to fix the problem. McLean is asked to communicate with Captain Porter and Locke.

b) Telegram from Edward Richardson, Government Buildings, Wellington, to Sir Donald McLean, dated 11 January 1876. The telegram reads: Agent-General cables "must emigration contracts on continent be determined will involve compensation probably two thousand pounds to contractor and fulfilment emigrants engagements service well organised promises good results." I was under the impression that absolute orders for stoppage of this emigration had been given as soon as Atkinson returns we shall have to settle this and send reply. Will you let us know your opinion on subject Southern elections going very crooked.

c) Telegram from Edward Richardson, Wellington, to Sir Donald McLean, dated 18 January 1876. The telegraph reads: received your telegram re immigration on Saturday also copy of same today. Atkinson returned yesterday all the better for his trip I see two new Māoris are elected instead of Parata & Katene do you know anything of Tawhiti of Hokianga or Hoani Hake of Hawiaki they should be looked up - I hear Māori paper in Napier is doing us much injury.

d) Telegram from Edward Richardson, to Sir Donald McLean, dated 10 January 1876. The telegraph reads: I have sent on voucher for interest for two thousand for Locke to Treasury I hope you will not want much more as if so there will not be much left for the other departments.
