Object detail

Brief Description
Memorandum of agreement between Mr McLean and Mr Kelham regarding Akitio Station.

Handwritten in black ink on blue lined paper.

The memorandum consists of a summary of correspondence and agreements between Donald McLean and J Kelham about the lease and stock on Akitio Station. It begins with an agreement over cattle on 21 December 1853 and ends with a piece from McLean to Kelham dated about 20 December 1859. The pieces are dated at various times within those years and are from Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Paris. Parts of some of the extracts have been underlined in pencil with notes in the margins, such as breach of trust, and misrepresentation. McLean and Kelham could not agree over who should sell to the other. Kelham appeared to manage the run on a day to day basis, with McLean an investor. Kelham went ahead and purchased land through an agent, who then tried to get McLean to sell his share of the stock to him. Attached at top left corner with pink tape and vellum.
