It reads: We the undersigned being the Messrs for the time being of the within mentioned Society do hereby acknowledge to have received all monies payment when ... intended to be secured by the within written Deed as witness on hand. Dated the ... day of ... 1875.
On the outside of the note is written: Form of Balance Society.
