Pencil sketch of a Māori pā (possibly Ngawai pā) in Whangaruru Bay, near the Bay of Islands. The pā, which is surrounded by a palisade and open ground, is on the shore of the bay. Four buildings are visible outside the palisade. In the foreground are trees and shrubs, and behind the pā are bush-clad hills and the ocean.
