About this object
Two acrylic on paper designs featuring native New Zealand kōwhai.
Kōwhai (D19) depicts yellow kōwhai flowers with red highlights and dark green tree branches on top of a white and grey swirlled pattern background.
Kōwhai (D22) depicts pale yellow kōwhai flowers with charcoal grey detailing and charcoal grey tree branches and foilage on top of a white background.
Kōwhai (D19) and (D22) are design examples by Higgs' which incorporate highly iconographic New Zealand plants. The value of such designs lies in the simple stylistic representation of the plant rather than its botanical status.
