Brief Description
Letter and list addressed to George Preece, Resident Magistrate of Napier from T W Lewis, Under Secretary of the Native Office in Wellington.

Part a - Lewis writes regarding a letter from Chief Toha regarding 50 acres of land in the Waitara Block alleged to have been promised to the Natives by the late Sir Donald McLean. While no record exists of this promise, there appears to be no doubt that it was made. The Native Minister has approved of the land being granted to the Public Trustee in trust for Toha and his people.

Part b - A list of the names of those involved in the Waitara Reserve.
