Morpeth writes acknowledging the receipt of a letter dated 13 April 1883 written by Paraone, Paimeta Ngatura & Patoromu Tekaka of Ngaawapurua near Woodville. The quoted letter states construction of a road at Awapura will stop if the price per chain of four pounds is not paid. Morpeth states that the Native Minister would like to know the purpose for which the money is demanded. Preece is to go to the locality and ascertain more information.
