Brief Description
The trial of Robert Butler for the Cumberland Street, Dunedin tragedy was held in the Supreme Court, Dunedin before his Honor Mr Justice Williams and a Common Jury.
The charge against Robert Butler was that he had feloniously, wilfully and of malice aforethought, killed and murdered James Murray Dewar on 14 March 1880. Butler was subsequently acquitted of the murder and arson.
