Brief Description
This 17 century love story of Ponga and Puhihuia was translated from Māori into English by Rev. H J Fletcher. It is set in Auckland at a pā on Maungawhau (Mt Eden) home of Puhihuia and at Awhitu, home of Ponga. The story is of Ponga and Puhihuia’s struggle against a background of on-going strife between their two families over fishing grounds and whakapapa.
