The New Zealand Institute's Science Congress was held between 4-9 February 1919 at Christchurch.
The programme consisted of a list of officers, papers and discussions, information about Banks Peninsula and Canterbury, geological notes of the area, the Christchurch-Arthur's Pass railway journey, botanical notes of the Canterbury Plains and Lyttleton Hills, Arthur's Pass vegetation, zoological notes, industrial works in neighbourhood of Christchurch, the artesian wells in the area; Lake Coleridge Electric power supply, population of Christchurch and district from the census of 1916, notes on the climate of Canterbury, chemical industries, the magnetic observatory, Hagley Park, Lyttleton, the port of Christchurch and North Canterbury and Canterbury Agricultural College at Lincoln.
