Object detail

Brief Description
This booklet: New Zealand Politics in 1848 was found near the Fish Ponds at Government House that is actually a translation of an ancient Chaldee Manuscript.

Discovered in the early days of Sir George Grey's first administration, to which is prefixed a glossary supplied by Mr Thomas W Mackenzie, identifying the characters as depicted in the original manuscript. The manuscript was written after Sir George Grey had refused to bring into operation the Constitution Act of 1846, and established Nominee Legislative Councils for the two Provinces of New Ulster and New Munster under the Ordinance of the Legislative Council number IX, Session 1 in 1842. The author was William Lyon of Wellington.
