Brief Description
The full title of the haka (a) is: The New Zealand Māori Haka Song sung by Members of Course 74 at Banquet - Palliser Hotel, Calgary, Alberta. 26 May 1943

The letter (b) explains: The haka was performed at the Canadian Pacific Railway's famous Palliser Hotel on the occasion of the passing out ceremony for Course 74 Flying Students at the completion of their flying training at Currie Field, a combination Military/Air Force base at Calgary, Alberta in Canada. It was a celebration of the WINGS presentation to Kiwi Airmen on the night of 26 May 1943. The Haka was specially written for the event by Māori Pilot Officer Maaka, who had been chosen to be a member of New Zealand Course 74 and to travel to Canada's Commonwealth Air Training bases. Ron Steel was a student on the same training course - he took the cyclostyled copy of the haka posted on the course notice board because of its Hawke's Bay connection.
