Brief Description
A booklet entitled: One Hundred Years on the Napier-Taupo Road. 1855-1955, compiled by the Historical Affairs Committee at the Hawke's Bay and East Coast Museum, Napier. This leaflet appears to be the editor's copy as there are corrections throughout. Note: the word Museum has been crossed out and Art Society written above.

The booklet provides information about the following: first record of a European traveller on the Māori track; the New Zealand scene; early development of the Napier-Taupo Road; meanings of Māori place-names; military posts and blockhouses on the Napier-Taupo Road; Opepe, the ghost town; to Opepe from Galatea, 1874; the timber industry and the Napier-Taupo Road; Ahuriri; Napier-Taupo Road birds; coach and car service of Hawke's Bay Motor Company; a pioneer motorist; reconstruction of the Napier-Taupo State Highway; a pioneer-overseer on the Napier-Taupo Road.
