The author discusses conflict in the Hawke's Bay area during the 1857 - 1874 period, the formation of military groups, military posts at Taupo, Runanga, Te Haroto and Tarawera, the advance of the Pai Mārire and the action at Opepe Bush. On page two is a sketch map of Napier Harbour drawn about 1870.
