Brief Description
Letter book, Samuel Locke, 1869 to 1872.

Samuel Locke was the Resident Magistrate for Hawke's Bay, Taupo, Poverty Bay & Wairoa. These letters relate directly to his position as the Magistrate.

In the front of the letter book is an alphabetical index of people to whom Samuel Locke has written letters. Beside the person's name is a page number for the copy of the letter as well as a remarks column in which is given a brief description of the contents. The letters are found behind the index.

With the letter book is a letter written to Tony Monteith from Marvin E Locke, Samuel Locke's grandson. In the letter Marvin briefly describes Samuel's life.
