This race booklet includes: general notices and race details; a message of congratulations from the Prime Minister, Keith Holyoake; a message from the Mayor, R V Giorgi; and a history of the club: The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club - 100 Years of Progress. This text recalls the contribution of a number of significant figures in the history of the Hawke's Bay region and their contribution to the Jockey Club: Sir Donald McLean; Thomas Tanner; Mr J D Ormond; James Watt; Mr G S Cooper; Mr Joseph Rhodes; and Mr G E G Richardson. It also covers all aspects of the club's history, the highs and lows of the past century.
