Brief Description
The booklet: Through the Uriwera (Urewera) Country was written by Robert Price. It was published in Napier, February 28, 1891. The introduction begins with: In the autumn of 1874, the late Mr Samuel Locke, at that time a Native Land Purchase Commissioner, was instructed by the late Sir Donald McLean, the Native Minister, to proceed to Ruatahuna to settle a boundary dispute between the Uriwera and Wairoa tribes. ...In the sixteen years that have elapsed since the account of the trip was written there have been, of course, many changes. The Armed Constabulary stations are things of the past. But, I am not aware that the road into Ruatahuna has been improved, nor have I reason to think that the manners and customs of the Uriwera natives have been materially changed. So far as I know this pamphlet furnishes the only description of the part of New Zealand of which it treats.

At the back are advertisements for the: Criterion Hotel, Napier; Clarendon Club Hotel, Napier; Crowther and McCauley - Coach Proprietors, Napier; Baker and Tabuteau, Land Agents, Napier; Masonic Hotel, Napier and C B Hoadley and Company, Stock and Station Agents, Napier.
