The booklet titled: Before and After: Photographs taken in Hastings, New Zealand showing effect of the Earthquake of February 3, 1931. This booklet contains photographs of: Grand Hotel, Hastings; Post Office, Hastings; Heretaunga Street, Hastings; Queen Street, Hastings; Nurses' Home, Napier; The Cosy Theatre, Hastings; Methodist Church, Hastings; and Band Rotunda, Hastings.

Attached to the inside of the back cover is a newspaper cutting whose headlines include: Over 500 Tremors, Big Quake and After, Wellington Records Lively Twenty-Four Hours. This article was published in The Dominion on March 3, 1931. It gives information on the records made by seismographs at the Dominion Observatory in the month following the Hawke's Bay earthquake.
