Brief Description
(a) Personal diary of Joseph Bernard Chambers of Te Mata Station, 1927. Written in Whitcombe's New Zealand Handy Diary for 1927, Bernard Chambers' diary entries record the weather, his daily activities and developments at Te Mata Station. Over a two-month period from 20 March to 20 May 1927, the diary entries are written by Bernard Lowry Chambers, son of Joseph Bernard Chambers. During this period, J B Chambers was in hospital and was operated on 21 March and 9 April 1927. B L Chambers comments on the recovery of his father.

At the front and back of the diary are advertising pages for Whitcombe and Tombs. The first section of the diary contains information on New Zealand under the following headings: Banks doing Business in New Zealand; Census of New Zealand; Civil Service; Ephemeris; Legal Memoranda; New Zealand Government; Postal Regulations; Telegrams. Not listed in the Contents is a folded map of the North and South Islands showing the main highways.

The following documents are loose at the back of the diary:

(b) Bank slip dated 2 November 1927 form the Union Bank of Australia Limited, Hastings. The slip records a payment to Brownie Kanau.

(c) Newspaper cutting, dated 26 January 1927, showing the plan and elevation of a woolshed and yard and a description of the building.

(d) Manuscript with, on one side, diary entries dated 1927 and, on the other side, notes on gardening.

(e) Manuscript dated 9 March 1927 regarding Okurakura Bush (difficult to decipher).

(a) Hard cardboard cover with linen spine. The front and back covers are printed in black ink. The advertisements and New Zealand information section is printed in black ink on paper. The pages of the diary are lined and the date printed in black ink. Entries are handwritten in black ink and pencil.
